When installing an Adobe AIR app, you get the message "The application could not be installed because the installer file is damaged. Try obtaining a new installer file from the application author." In most cases, the installer file is not actually damaged. This seems to be an access or permission issue.

Please try the following:

  1. The first thing to do, because it's not complicated and it sometimes works, is to completely shut down and reboot your computer, then try installing again. If that doesn't work, try the following.
  2. First uninstall the app if you have an existing install
  3. Make sure the application's folder does not exist in c:\Program Files or c:\Program Files (x86). If it does, delete the application's folder. For example, if you are having trouble updating the Habi Makeover app, delete the Habi Makeover folder.
  4. Empty the Trash (Mac OS) or Recycling Bin (Windows)
  5. Check that your computer's system clock is correct. Correct the date and time if it not current.
  6. Make sure you have the latest version of the Adobe AIR runtime installed. You can download it from http://get.adobe.com/air
  7. It might be necessary to turn off your anti-virus temporarily while you install the program.
  8. Now try installing your app again

If that still doesn't work, download the app's air file to do a manual install. Then double-click the air file to install.
